On The Bill is proud to welcome one of Mzansi’s most dynamic entertainers to the family!
A two-time SAFTA winner, Sivuyile “Siv” Ngesi’s career spans comedy, film, television, presenting, producing and live performance. While it’s clear he’s no stranger to a stage, beyond the accolades and the packed venues, what truly defines Siv is something far more enduring… a deep commitment to craft, authenticity and impact.
A 32-year head start
At just nine years old, Siv was cast as Gavroche in Les Misérables, touring Asia with the production and later performing at Nelson Mandela’s birthday celebration. That early introduction to the professional stage set the tone for everything that followed.
“Starting early really helped me to refine my skills,” he reflects. “It’s my 32nd year in the entertainment industry, and I’m so grateful to have started early.”
More than experience, those early years instilled discipline. “It’s taught me punctuality, professionalism, networking,” he says. “It’s helped me to not chase the fame, not chase the money, but rather to chase the craft – to chase the job.”
In an industry obsessed with visibility and virality, Siv’s focus has always been different: longevity and authenticity. “It’s taught me to be as authentic as possible – not to chase perfection.”
That mindset has carried him from theatre stages to film sets, and from one-man comedy shows to major television productions.
From making people laugh to making them feel
With a career that spans comedy, acting, hosting and producing, Siv’s presence on stage has evolved over the years. While comedy remains a powerful part of his work, his intention has deepened.
“Entertainment is making people feel some sort of reaction – be it laughing or crying or thought-provoking,” he says. “But it’s all about authenticity. It’s about being as real and consistent as possible.”
When he steps onto a stage, his goal extends beyond punchlines.
“Before, I wanted to make people laugh. But now, I want to inspire people,” he explains. “Still using comedy, still using thought-provoking material, but I want to make people feel.”
He describes wanting audiences to leave an event “tingling,” inspired to reconnect with what matters. “I want people to leave the room laughing, crying, reflecting, inspired… I want them to tell their mother they love them.”
At the core of his performance philosophy is impact. “The most important thing for me is to inspire others… I want to inspire them to be the best version of themselves.”
The balance of humour and social commentary
Siv has long been recognised for blending humour with social awareness – reflecting on life in South Africa with honesty and heart. But striking that balance is intentional.
“My entire narrative is to challenge and to inspire and to make people laugh,” he says. “Some comedians try to inspire, but come across as preachy or like they’re lecturing. It’s about finding the perfect balance.”
Siv’s secret weapon
When asked what audiences connect with most in a Siv Ngesi performance, his answer was simple: “High energy. Consistent high energy. That’s one of my secret weapons.”
Whether performing locally or internationally, he sees his role as energiser-in-chief. “My job is to energise people when they see me perform. Authentic and real, but definitely high energy. Fearless, unapologetic.”
But perhaps most telling is what he chooses not to do.
“Not a single swearword. I will not be offensive. I want my mother to be able to give me the green light,” he says jokingly. “I keep it kid-friendly and respectful.”
It’s a reminder that powerful performance doesn’t require shock value – just confidence, clarity and craft.
A new chapter with On The Bill
As Siv joins On The Bill, he enters a new phase of collaboration and expansion – something he’s genuinely excited about.
“When it comes to my work, I’ve always struggled to let go,” he admits. “But with OTB, I trust the team.”
For Siv, professionalism is non-negotiable and he sees that in OTB. “I’ve watched the work that the team’s been doing and their professionalism. People in this industry lose that and for me I’m all about professionalism.”
Looking ahead, his focus is clear: “To be able to create and curate audiences, leaving them feeling happy with what we’ve done and produced. I’m really proud to be a part of the team and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do.”
With 32 years in the industry, authenticity and a secret weapon of unstoppable energy, from the Mother City and beyond… this is only the beginning.
