Following a successful European tour, where they opened for the Kings of Leon at the Gasteiner Infinity Music Tour in Austria, Acoustic Element shows no signs of slowing down! This September, they released their latest track, Rebel Heart, featuring acclaimed South African singer, Jimmy Nevis.
Behind the Collaboration of Rebel Heart
Nevis, a household name in the South African music industry, brings his rich experience and unique sound to this collaboration. Nevis has a remarkable ability to transcend genres, making him the perfect partner for Acoustic Element’s distinct musical style. Reflecting on the collaboration, Nevis shared, “Although we’ve collaborated on stage, we haven’t really done so in the studio. It just felt like the right time. They’re doing some amazing things where they’ve carved out their own sound. They have this incredible identity – they know what they want – and it was great to blend years of friendship into our studio sessions.”
The single Rebel Heart promises to be a standout track, combining Nevis’s powerful vocals and lyrical expertise with Acoustic Element’s live instrumentation. When asked what fans can expect from this upcoming release, Nevis expressed his excitement: “I collaborate with different artists across genres, but I think this is a great up-tempo pop track. There’s an uplifting element to it, which I think is really cool. That’s what I’m trying to do with my music – to share the love. I love lyrics, but I also love the live instrumentation. So, there’s not only a dope beat, but Jody and Callen also both shine on this track.”
Nevis’s journey in the music industry which spans over a decade is marked by continuous growth and adaptation. “I’ve been in the industry for about 12 years now and it’s been a rollercoaster. There’s always something new to learn – the music industry is ever changing! I’m so grateful that I get to do what I love and get to grow within my identity and my vision.”
One of the key factors in Nevis’s success is his willingness to learn from new and emerging artists and professionals. He values the dynamic music scene, particularly in the age of social media: “I learn a lot from the new up-and-coming artists. There’s so much change, with people doing new things – especially with social media. We all learn from each other in the end. I also love connecting with new artists, and others who are entering the game – sound engineers, writers, producers. That’s who I love to connect with, because it helps me to grow and learn in new ways.”
The Friendship That Shaped Rebel Heart
The friendship between Nevis and Acoustic Element is evident, both on and off the stage. “Jody and Callen are two of the easiest guys to get along with. Whenever we get together it’s like no time has passed. There’s a lot of love there.” He also highlights the natural chemistry they share when making music: “Whenever Jody and I have performed together at a friend or family gathering, or around a fire, there’s always magic there. And even with Callen – he’s so talented and it’s just easy for us to make music together.”
