Sethu G: From New Talent Tuesdays to a European stage

When Durban-born singer Sethu G took the stage at The Blue Room for her New Talent Tuesdays audition, little did she know how quickly her life was about to change. With a voice as smooth and sultry as it is versatile, and a stage presence that effortlessly commands attention, she’s since gone from Cape Town’s rising live music scene to an international stage. In fact, in May this year she performed in Austria alongside Acoustic Element!

But for Sethu G, music was always the destination…

“My musical journey basically started since I came out of the womb,” she laughs. “I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. It’s always been something that I wanted to do. Growing up, I wanted to be like the singers I watched on Disney Channel – like Hannah Montana and High School Musical. I wanted my life to be like Sharpay’s – surrounded by music.”

A sound rooted in soul

Sethu G’s vocal range and genre versatility make her difficult to categorise – and that’s exactly what makes her exciting. She mostly draws inspiration from R&B and soul and her smooth tone adds depth and feeling to every performance.

“People say I have a smooth, sultry voice,” she says. “. Every time I sang a cover as a kid, it would usually be a ballad or something R&B. But right now, I’m also really enjoying afrohouse and afrotech – that space has been so exciting to explore with Luke Goliath.”

A perfect match with Luke Goliath

Now working out of On The Bill Studios, Sethu G has been collaborating with in-house producer Luke Goliath on new material – and the creative connection was instant.

“We actually work really quickly, which makes things flow a lot easier. One of the songs we worked on we finalised the main elements within 2 to 3 hours. Luke’s crazy and I love that – it matches my crazy!” She goes on to praise Goliath’s energy when working together. “He brings a lot of energy and that’s really what you need when you’re trying to write music and collab with other artists. I also love the fact that he’s genuine, so it’s really been a great experience.”

Powered by On The Bill

Since signing with On The Bill, Sethu G has seen her career accelerate. From local bookings to international opportunities, the support has been transformative.

“OTB had a major impact on my career. I had very few gigs as a solo artist before New Talent Tuesdays, and they really helped me branch out as a solo artist. Even while I’m in Austria, they’ve taken care of me. I’m so grateful to Jody and the team – they’ve believed in me every step of the way.”

Now performing abroad as Sethu G

Currently on tour in Linz, Austria with violin-and-guitar duo Acoustic Element, Sethu G is experiencing a whole new level of visibility as a solo artist.

“This is probably the most exciting, slightly nerve-wracking experience of my career. I’ve performed abroad before, but always as part of a group. Now I’m performing as Sethu G, and people are getting to know me by name. It’s insane – just looking forward to seeing where this takes me next!”

It all started with New Talent Tuesdays

Sethu G’s journey with On The Bill began at New Talent Tuesdays, a weekly platform hosted at The Blue Room to discover emerging South African talent.

“I don’t think I was nervous. Once I started singing there were no nerves whatsoever. I don’t really get nervous when I perform in general, unless it’s something really foreign to me or if I’m unfamiliar with a particular crowd. So yes, I don’t think I was nervous but rather excited to see where this would lead.”

New Talent Tuesdays isn’t just a stage – it’s a springboard. For artists like Sethu G, it offers more than just exposure… It’s a real opportunity to connect with industry professionals, collaborate with established musicians and join a platform committed to growing local talent. Whether you’re starting out or starting over, New Talent Tuesdays is where doors open and careers begin.
